First Snow

Well it snowed for the first time this year this morning. :/ I dislike winter, especially having to do farm chores in winter, so this is not a welcome snow for me. However, there is still a bunch of fall stuff I have to do, like harvest the pumpkins and squash and shear the goats and try to section off a portion of the barn for January kidding. Our goats were bred early this year so kidding will be in January or February, not good for us Northern folks! I hope our kids will be all right being born into the cold weather! But I have plans to hopefully make the barn warmer, as much as we can with a leaky, drafty, old, falling-down barn like we have.
Yesterday I went out to fix the electric fence, and it took me 3 hours yesterday and 3 the day before to get it all done, and I was just doing patching work, not making any huge changes. We really need better fencing. But at least I was able to get it done enough to let the horses out of their yard into the pasture. I could definitely feel the "thank you!" vibes from them. :)

  2. It's been said that farmers are the salt of the earth. I had a chance many years ago to work on a farm for 2 or 3 days. The only other time in my life when I felt so beat was when I was a firefighter in the US Forest Service!

So, here's a tip of the cap to ya!!
